You Can Project
Introduction
This project aims to break the barriers of stigma, discrimination, and misinformation surrounding youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The first project titled YOU CAN PROJECT aims at reducing Stigma which is a complex social process that often leads to the social and economic exclusion of individual youth from accessing SRH information and services. Stigma often targets those who transgress or who are perceived to transgress social norms governing appropriate behaviour. Stigmatised individuals and groups, in turn, may be subject to discrimination. Together, stigma and discrimination have been recognised as major barriers to youth accessing SRH-friendly services. Yet, relatively little attention has been given to the effects of stigma and discrimination on adolescents’ access to contraceptives and other SRH services.
Goal
To promote inclusive access to SRHR services and information for youth.
Objectives
- Raise awareness about SRHR through peer education.
- Reduce stigma related to HIV, STIs, and reproductive choices.
- Engage health service providers to create youth-friendly services.
We conduct workshops in schools and colleges to raise awareness on SRHR, human rights, and gender equality. We also train youth peer educators and link youth with youth-friendly health services.
Impact
Reached over 1,000 youth in schools and colleges with accurate SRHR education, resulting in improved health-seeking behaviors and reduced stigma.
